Funny Hat Big Money

The Jose Reyes era is over.

It ends with a whimper and a funny hat.  The Mets never had a chance to sign Jose they just can not afford him. Is it sad? Well yes but this is Baseball and it is a business.

The one thing I can not get out of my mind is that this makes 2006, 2007,2008 hurt all over again.  All the promise of a future with championships (more than one) and a team that would be fun to follow for a long time.  It is all gone now.  The Dynamic Duo is no more. Tejada and Wright does not even sound remotely in the vicinity of complete.

It really has all been written already.

In the big scheme of things the loss of a single baseball player on a team really means very little. We are faced with so many other true challenges and problems that cause real and lasting heartache.  This one event will mean very little eventually actually it means very little now.

The Wright Reyes duo are the first baseball stars my children have experienced so an era has past. For me I have been through many a favorite player starting with Lee Mazzilli and eventually we all will find someone new to be our favorite player in Orange and Blue. I think we may wait till the start of the season to get rid of the Reyes banner in the boys room. Or maybe not. My son basically said it is OK dad we can just watch the Marlins now.  I guess we can or Bobby V and the Red Sox's. Fenway is only a half hour farther than CitiField.  Who can say maybe it will be that easy this time to just switch though it never has been in the past we (I) always come back.

So Jose good luck on your baseball Journey and thank you for all the great memories and heartache. And in the immortal words of Will Smith.

Party in the city where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
Buenvenidos a Miami
Bouncin in the club where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm goin to Miami
Welcome to Miami

Opening Series vs The Marlins 2-1

Well how about that! The first game doom and gloom replaced with sunshine and roses. So many positive out of these first three games that I may be a bit giddy at the moment.

A quick hat tip to Josh Johnson he can pitch. Great first series and not game finishes for K Rod. On to Philly.

Hope and Change / Yanks Prediciton

I have hope but realistically we will probably see a whole bunch of change this season. The team will win more than 75 games. Not sure how much more but more.  The pitching will surprise the offense will disappoint and we will be left with a trade deadline of selling for the future. If they can they will trade Beltran, K-Rod, and Jose Reyes.  We will miss them all when they are gone. Maybe we will not miss K-Rod that much!

The rebuilding process will begin and the Wilpon's will have to sell a larger stake in the team and maybe part of SNY to cover costs.  The Mets payroll next year will be under 100 million dollars and finally David Wright will ask to be traded.  The team will be good again but not for at least three years.

I hope I am wrong. I hope the team overachieves it could happen.

The Yankees will Miss the playoffs this year Bartolo Colon is the teams 4th starter. Really, can anyone say rotation nightmare.

The Mets Mess!

I have not blogged in awhile and well any of you Mets fans might know why that is the case.  It has been so disheartening to be a fan of the New York Mets over the last three years. If it is not one scandal it is another.  When will we be allowed to turn the page on Beltran strike three?  It has just been a long lonely steep downward slope.  Early this winter it seemed like we could finally turn the page the new GM had a plan. Yes this year he had no money but next year we might be in great position to add talent.

The other shoe always seems to fall on this franchise even in the best of times but the Madoff situation is the biggest mess of all. It may be the a mess big enough to finally allow us to the turn the page entirely from the Wilpon era.  Using Mets money to earn what we know now were unachievable investment returns.

What did Fred Wilpon really know and when did he know it?  These two question will most likely never be answered to my satisfaction but they just might force him to sell a heck of a lot more than 25% of the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club.

This is the last I will blog about this Issue it is in the courts. It will be played out over the next year or so and will probably get very, very ugly for the Wilpons. As we near spring training it is time for talk of baseball.  during the regular season I will again attempt to chronicle the season series by series. And I do hope to get some contributions from the boys.

It would certainly be ironic if the Mets actually have a great season. Stranger things have happened!
